Has anyone attempted to fit a short shifter, I bought one and tried to fit it myself. It's not a straight faward replacement of the original, the standard mounting plate needs modifying. Has anyone got ant tips or tricks? Or should I just pay a garage?

I Thought the KAD Quickshift was a straight forward Bolt on Job, not that i have ever tried one, but i have looked into it every now and then untill the price tag puts me off

I had one of the fakes from Minsport that just bolted in, however it did require that you remove the entire rod change mechanism from the gearbox backwards and drift out a dowel so you could bolt it in properly.

That's exactly what i'm going to have to do. But I have been warned not to fit it to a standard gearbox, apparently it wont go into gear as easly. How did you find yours?

I never actually fitted it due to the fact you had to remove the assembly, in fact I still have it somewhere. I've also heard about issues regarding going into gear on these cheap copies. I'm going for a KAD one

thats what i planned to do, but everytime i was going to do it, something more important needed doing.... like the old saying, if it aint broke dont fix it.... and if it does break hit it with a big hammer!

Re: KAD short shift gear stick.
cheaper copies are terrible if you have to have one go for KAD as they are better quality.
however it will still knacker the syncro's in your gearbox, all quickshifts do if you want a quickshift you will have to live with that fact. personally i will never have one i don't need it and whats the point putting something on the car that will wear out my gearbox if i don't need it

Re: KAD short shift gear stick.
had qwick shifts mk2 fitted to my riley and shorty for the last 3-5 years and not seen any of the wear with my gearboxs think its just down to where the copys have been buy some cowboy outfit but some copys are well made and work fine with no problems. i have seen problems with the mk1 copy qwick shifts not getting gears.
